Innovation in work to promote exceptional practice in both inclusion and diversity.

Educational inclusion is defined as "the efforts made by the school community to proactively make learning meaningful and relevant for pupils from a variety of social and cultural backgrounds including travellers; refugees and asylum seekers; black and ethnic minority pupils and faith groups; pupils with SEN; girls and boys; pupils who need support to learn English as an additional language; gifted and talented pupils; children looked after by the local authority; infrequent attendees; other children such as sick children, young carers, those children from families under stress, pregnant schoolgirls and teenage parents and pupils at risk of disaffection and inclusion. …the ultimate aim of inclusive education is to give every pupil, regardless of their background, the opportunity to fulfil their human potential. " (National PSE Association)

To achieve the Award, schools had to show exceptional practice in both of the categories below, which results in significant pupil achievement

  • Working with/for two of the groups identified above, give examples of activities which provide regular opportunities to sustain inclusive practice and/or celebrate diversity. Explain how this contributes to pupils' achievement.

Previous Award

Investors in People

Investors in People is the national standard which sets out a level of good practice for the training and development of people in order to achieve goals.

The Standard is based on three main principals:

  • Developing strategies to improve performance
  • Taking action to improve the performance
  • Evaluation

These three key principles are broken down into 10 indicators, against which organisations are assessed.

Investors in People in Schools

Schools that are working with the Standard have found it invaluable in evaluating their existing practice and performance. It provides a coherent framework for:

  • The professional development needs of all staff
  • Leadership, management, and the management of change
  • Performance management
  • Assessing, recording and reporting schools and pupil achievement
